“If the Brexiteers win… the EU referendum is merely advisory.” It was reported on 8 June 2016 that Lord Astor, David Cameron’s father-in-law, declared a Brexit would have “no legal standing” even if the public voted to leave the 28-member bloc. His comments reveal the contempt he holds for the democratic will of the British people and underscore why many feel big business always trumps workers’ rights.

Why Workers Should Vote Leave

Eddie Bone, Campaign Director for the Workers of England Union, responded:

“What an insult to the people of England who will be using their democratic vote to show how they feel. Lord Astor, who sits comfortably on an immense inherited fortune, has made it crystal clear why every working man and woman should vote leave. Workers across Britain must unite and force these undemocratic lords to listen to the common voice.”

The Undemocratic Nature of the Privilege Elite

Lord Astor’s attitude is undemocratic and displays utter contempt for the working class. He has inherited vast wealth built on the backs of hard-working people, yet he chooses to ignore their democratic will and campaign for a Remain vote. This privileged elite consistently prioritises financial gain over the rights and livelihoods of ordinary citizens.
