The Workers of England Union has long campaigned for fair funding for our nurses in England. Recent statements by Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland’s First Minister, have highlighted a persistent pay gap between newly qualified nurses in NHS Scotland and those in NHS England.

Nicola Sturgeon’s Key Statement

On The Andrew Marr Show (14/05), Nicola Sturgeon revealed that newly qualified Scottish nurses earn £300 more per year than their counterparts in England and that the nursing bursary remains protected in Scotland.

The Barnett Formula and Underfunding in England

When our campaign first highlighted how the Barnett formula disadvantages NHS England, we faced skepticism. Now, the damaging effects are widely recognised, with taxpayers and healthcare professionals calling for an urgent review.

Continued Campaign and Support

The Workers of England Union appreciates your loyal support. We remain committed to:

  • Highlighting injustices in NHS funding
  • Pressuring policymakers for equitable nurse pay
  • Ensuring the NHS England receives its fair share of resources

Together, we can secure a brighter future for all newly qualified nurses across the UK.
